Find Images For Your Website or Blog

A picture is worth a thousand words.

That may or may not be accurate, but there is a lot of value in using images in your blog or website. For one thing, we all know that first impressions are critically important and you only get one chance to make a good one.

Put yourself in the place of the reader. If your blog is straight text, how likely is it that you are ac actually going to read it. Many people will just click away. Add a few pictures and the look all of a sudden changes, and it won’t seem so intimidating to consume the content.

Pictures Provide SEO Value.

When you add a picture, you have the chance to add alt text that identifies what the Double Dip by adding interest and SEO valuepicture is about for blind readers, and lets you put descriptive keywords related to the post so that it makes sense to the blind reader.
Guess what, search engines can’t “see” pictures either, so it gives you a little more SEO opportunity. You need to describe the picture so it make sense to the context of the information you are writing about.

How to Find Images You Can Use

You have numerous options for sources of images. You can start with images you own yourself. You can take pictures, upload them to your website and you are in business. That can work really well if you are teaching something and you can use pictures of a project of your own to demonstrate.
For instance, if you are teaching a particular cross stitch pattern,  can take step by step pictures of your own and they will be the best possible choices for you. In other circumstances, you might just need to use a picture someone else has taken.
Then you can either pay to use a photo owned by someone else who will let you purchase use the image.  When you choose to purchase permission to use a photo, you are not required to give anyone else credit. In some cases, that is a great choice. You don’t want to give your visitors reason to click away from your site. I use Big Stock Photo.

There are other times when you just need an image for a particular post, and you don’t want to have to pay for it . That is where Flickr comes in. They offer what is called “creative commons”, which means that you can use an image if you will give credit to the owner. I created a short video about how to use Flickr for you.
