Locating Your Router for Optimal Performance

Tom had just acquired a new Linksys wrt54gs wireless router and he wondered where to place it for the best signal coverage. He knew from the manual that signal strength can be affected by one or two different variables. Its really important to appreciate the router should be at the centre of your suggested networking area as much as possible.

Tom and Linda have quite an enormous two level home and so Tom determined the central spot would be in the sitting room. Big appliances like the refrigerator and washing machine can meddle with the signal potency so Tom found the router away from that wall in the family room where he knew the fridge was on the opposite side.

He decided to mount the router up on the wall where it wouldn't be covered by anything because the device is reasonably small and compact. His PC is located near a big window and Tom was glad that he had decided not to invest in the UV window tint he had been considering last year.

Because that is another factor that may lower the wireless signal, metallic window tints can distort the wireless signal from your router. The signal is strongest when it is in direct line with the computing devices so he guaranteed that both the external antennae were pointing up. He checked that it was away from the metal cabinet of the Computer and took away the massive mirror that hung on wall because he knew that large areas of glass and mirror can reflect or refract the wireless signals.
