Free Products offered by Microsoft

With the introduction of Linux, Microsoft has been trying to woo their customers, providing them with more and more free software over the last few years. Some of them include:

Windows Live Writer
Photosynth
World Wide Telescope
Windows Live Skydrive
Bing
Let’s have a look at each one of them.

Windows Live Writer: Like its name suggests, it is a tool that allows you to write live. You can create a blog post offline in the format of a blog and then publish it directly to your blog, without going through the usual steps. You can also insert pictures, maps, videos, tags, etc. Doesn’t that sound interesting? This is a very useful tool for those of you who blog and write articles often. However, it does not support all blog platforms like ActiveRain as some features won’t work on this platform.

Photosynth: This software helps you display your holiday photos to your friends and family as moving display, like a slide show. Like the name says, the photos will move in a synchronizing manner. You can take some photos and put them all together. Your photos will be merged together and appear as if you are in the picture. You can also use the zoom feature and get a close look at the photo and view its details.

It is all possible with the help of the “synther” which can reconstruct a 3d world from photographs. This tool is useful when you want to share your photos with your loved ones.

World Wide Telescope: It utilizes images and data stored to enable you to explore some of the highest resolution images in the universe in multiple wavelengths. You can also get a lifetime experience by tours from astronomers featuring interesting places in the sky. Your computer can literally function like a telescope with this visualization software. Just imagine looking at the all heavenly bodies through your computer. The Microsoft Research has dedicated the WorldWide Telescope in memory of Jim Gray.

Windows Live Skydrive: It is a file storage service that allows users to upload files and then access them from a web browser. It does that by using the Windows Live ID to access the user’s file and allows them to keep the files private and you can even share it with others if you want.

Some of its features include:

Office Web Apps
Favorites sharing
Windows Live Groups integration
RSS feeds
Bing: Bing.com is Microsoft’s search engine, with its homepage attractively colored with new background pictures and interesting facts. The main difference between Bing and other search engines it the fact that it can aid you in decision making. The “Tour Bing” link which is on the top left corner of the home page can help first time users and those of you who want to find out the features of Bing.

You can make adjustments to your location, result listings and many more. Similar to other search engines, it shows search results of related websites. This search engine is very useful for shopping, traveling, and finding great locations.

I hope you found this information on the free goodies offered by Micorsoft useful, what are you waiting for, go ahead and access them.
